CIT - Counselor in Training 2025

The CIT or Counselor in Training Program is for rising 7th through 10th grade students who are interested in working with children, being a part of a team, and willing to improve and strengthen their leadership skills.  CIT’s will get hands-on experience working with campers while assisting YMCA staff.

The Counselor in Training Program allows these students the opportunity to have an idea of what it would be like to become a future counselor.  Once selected, a CIT is not considered a camper in the summer camp program but they also are NOT considered YMCA staff.  The program is not a volunteer program, not a paid YMCA staff member program, and does not guarantee future employment with the Florence Family YMCA.  CIT’s will have the unique opportunity of being role models to the campers and their peers by demonstrating the value of responsibility, caring, respect, and honesty.  We want CIT’s to be able to gain friendships, achieve success, and have fun while being an important part of making camp a great place to be.

We are seeking CIT candidates that are mature, independent, dependable, motivated and willing to put forth their best efforts to help make a positive difference.  CIT’s will be expected to learn, understand, and follow the YMCA’s policies and procedures.  CIT’s will shadow and assist counselors in assigned camp groups to make each day at camp fun with games, activities, arts and crafts, meals, and some simple cleaning.

Interested candidates should read and complete the CIT Information and Application Packet thoroughly.  Once completed, applications must be turned in along with three (3) reference letters no later than Friday May 9, 2025 to be considered for an interview.  Prospective applicants will be notified of an interview date and time.  (Please note that the application and interview process are designed to prepare students for future job application processes.)  Upon completion of the interview process and selection, CIT’s and/or their parents will be asked to complete a program enrollment form and pay the accompanying fees for program registration.  We ask that all selected CIT’s attend a mandatory CIT orientation and training on a date that will be given at a later time.  We also ask that all CIT’s commit to attending a minimum of four (4) weeks of the program.
